McMaster Has a New Master

By Bill Maher

Lots of people, myself included, have taken some small measure of solace knowing that President Trump has the widely respected General H.R. McMaster serving as his National Security Adviser. If the president is the emptiest vessel ever to occupy that office, and he is, better to have someone who knows what he’s doing whispering in his ear, rather than the corruption-minded family members and conspiracy theorists that make up Trump’s inner circle.

Well, so much for solace. According to Bloomberg’s Eli Lake, Trump is privately expressing regret over choosing McMaster and has already marginalized him, presumably on account of his knowing things. McMaster was the one who urged Trump not to use the phrase “radical Islamic terrorism” and called the South Koreans and told them no, we don’t expect you to pay for the new missile defense system, no matter what President Non Sequitur says. According to Lake, Trump called McMaster and screamed at him over the phone, accusing him “of undercutting efforts to get South Korea to pay its fair share.” Last weekend, McMaster was noticeably absent for meetings with Australia's prime minister. Instead, Fox News analyst and outgoing deputy national security adviser, K.T. McFarland, joined Trump instead.

This is upsetting. We’re getting to the point where the closest thing the Oval Office has to a calm voice of reason is Siri; to where the closest thing Trump has to a National Security team is the three dopes on Fox and Friends. Who is going to be giving the President sound advice if McMaster isn’t allowed in the room anymore?

Don’t answer that. I want to sleep soundly tonight.
