Mandela Dei
/By Bill Maher
Nelson Mandela never directly called himself an atheist in public, but he clearly was not a religious man. In fact, everything he said about religion points to him being a secular humanist. This was pretty much kept on the DL in the press eulogies, which, to me, was a stark contrast to when other moral leaders die and everybody rushes to attribute their strength to faith. It’s always, “His faith made him a better person.” Nobody said of Mandela, “His lack of faith in an imaginary space God made him a stronger person who lived for the here and now, and not for some phony Afterlife.” But they should have.
